Email Strategist
Location: Raleigh, NC or Remote / Full-Time

The Email Strategist is responsible for transforming strategy, copy, and design into high-performing, reusable email templates that render consistently across devices and platforms. This role works closely with Email Designers, Copy Writers and Account Managers to bring campaigns to life with precision, clean code, and exceptional attention to UX. The ideal candidate is fluent in HTML and CSS for email, understands cross-platform compatibility nuances, and cares about protecting the integrity of the customer experience.
• Code responsive, reusable email templates using HTML and CSS aligned with each client’s brand standards.
• Translate the work of clients, Designers and Account Managers into fully functioning email campaigns.
• Ensure that UX, layouts, and interaction elements created by Email Designers are accurately preserved in development.
• Troubleshoot rendering issues across major email clients (Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, Yahoo, etc.) and devices.
• Optimize templates for load time, accessibility, and mobile-first rendering.
• Maintain modular code structures that can be repurposed for future campaigns.
• Collaborate with Designers and Account Managers to ensure technical feasibility of content blocks and personalization.
• Test functionality and formatting across platforms using QA tools and manual checks.
• Implement best practices for inline CSS, media queries, and table-based layouts for email.
• Work closely with internal teams and client stakeholders to ensure timely delivery.
• Stay current on industry developments, coding trends, and ESP requirements.
• Ensure compliance with email standards and best practices for deliverability and performance.
• Provide input on how to improve template systems, efficiency, and workflow.
• Participate in weekly client-facing calls, partnering with the Account Manager and clients to provide guidance, problem solve, and ensure smooth execution of retention marketing efforts.
• Prior experience collaborating with designers and marketing teams preferred.
• Understands responsive design and cross-client compatibility.
• Pays exceptional attention to detail to ensure flawless execution of visual and UX intent.
• Works well with designers, copywriters, and project managers to deliver complete campaigns.
• Able to troubleshoot layout, rendering, and formatting issues efficiently.
• Demonstrates ownership over code quality, consistency, and reusability.
• Comfortable working in fast-paced environments with multiple deadlines.
• Communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Communicates clearly and effectively with clients.
• Balances speed with accuracy while preserving brand and UX integrity.
• Able to bring creative work to life through clean, functional code.
Desired Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in web development, digital design, computer science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 2–4 years of experience coding email templates professionally.
• Demonstrated experience working with major ESPs and rendering/testing tools.
• Familiarity with Klaviyo, Hubspot, Litmus, Email on Acid, or similar platforms is preferred.
• Prior experience collaborating with designers and marketing teams preferred.
